This was my first attempt at painting a sea scene. Visiting the Mediterranean reminded me of how much I missed the water, so I decided to paint this scene of the drawbridge in Mystic, Connecticut. When I was little, we used to visit Mystic as a family and watch the drawbridge go up and down. This painting required me to use a very different palette from what I had become accustomed to, with the blues and golds from the sea and sunlight.
