Putnam Art Heist 2026
domenica, 1 febbraio 2026
Today, like last year, I donated a piece of art to the 3rd annual Putnam Art Heist. This year, the artwork is on display for an entire month before the auction, which is scheduled for the beginning of March. Similar to last year, I decided to donate a piece based upon the village of Pari, in Italia…
Drawing the Head & Hands
domenica, 18 gennaio 2026
This book by Andrew Loomis, entitled “Drawing the Head & Hands” is one of the best references that I have found for laying out and drawing portraits. The method that Loomis recommends is straightforward and structured, while still allowing for (and even encouraging) individual creativity.
Fun with a Pencil
venerdì, 16 gennaio 2026
This is an old-school introduction to sketching by Andrew Loomis. If you are looking for a playful introduction to the art of drawing and sketching, then this is the book for you. Rather than approaching figures from a place of portraiture, Loomis approaches drawing from a place of play.
Figure Drawing for All It's Worth
venerdì, 16 gennaio 2026
If you or someone you know has been searching for a book on figure drawing, then look no further than Andrew Loomis’ book, “Figure Drawing for All It’s Worth”. This is more than a simple step-by-step book, in the sense that one is expected to experiment and work with the principles and approach that Loomis lays out.
Woodblock Inspiration
mercoledì, 14 gennaio 2026
The artistry of woodblock prints, particularly the Japanese woodblocks, have inspired me for quite some time now. Not only is there an organic flow to the approach of the Japanese masters, but the color palettes that are used fascinate me to no end. This book was a birthday gift from my brother and his wife and I am finally starting to use it in the way that I had hoped!
Putnam Art Heist 2025
venerdì, 28 febbraio 2025
Today I donated a piece for the 2nd annual Art Heist for the Putnam Arts Council. This piece, entitled "Il Gelsomino - II", captures the energy of Pari, Italia, perhaps the one place in the world where I have felt truly at home as an adult. My hope is that this piece will find a happy home and give its owners a similar sense of peace and contentment that I find in my village…
New Website Release!
giovedì, 27 febbraio 2025
After many months of planning, and much trial and error, I was finally able to release a new version of my website and push it up "live" for all the world to see. Even though the site is still very much a work-in-progress, especially when it comes to writing content, all of the essential elements are finally there…
La Referenza Bella
giovedì, 27 febbraio 2025
Sometimes, when you least expect it, fortune smiles upon you with an unexpected surprise. Even though I have continued with my art throughout the beginning of 2025, I haven't been posting as much on social media — mainly due to the fact that I needed to fix and finish my website. After all, there's not much sense in posting to social media if one doesn't have much of a website to send people to…
Le Scale Curve - I
martedì, 25 febbraio 2025
I had the honor of selling my first print of Le Scale Curve - I this past week. If it is one thing that I have learned over the past year, it's that one cannot judge their own art. I created this piece in the Spring of 2024, when I was still using the Winsor & Newton colors out of my paintbox…
Tiny Art Show 2025
sabato, 1 febbraio 2025
Throughout the month of February, I had a "tiny art piece" on display at the local library in Putnam, Connecticut in Stati Uniti. This is the second year that the local library has done a "tiny art show". This year they doubled the number of partipants to 62, up from 31 from the year before…
Le Due Cecche
martedì, 21 gennaio 2025
After posting my third piece of art focusing on Le Due Cecche, some of you may be wondering about my fascination with the architecture of this structure within my little medieval village. Like many of the pictures that I paint, however, these pieces go beyond the formal structure and into what they represent on a very human level. For Le Due Cecche is much more than a simple building, or even a restaurant Le Due Cecche represents the social center at the heart of Pari.
Bagnaia - I
mercoledì, 15 gennaio 2025
Some of you familiar with Pari, may also be familiar with Bagnaia, or the Bagnaia near Pari. However, this Bagnaia, is not that Bagnaia, but the Bagnaia that is a a frazione of Viterbo, in Lazio. Bagnaia was the first place that I landed in Italia. Thanks to a friend from high school who had an opening, I had planned to spend a month in Bagnaia before heading back to Stati Uniti. Plans have a way of changing, however, especially if one is open to the ever-shifting nature of the Universe and its intimations.
La Mia Prima Mattina a Pari
martedì, 14 gennaio 2025
I can’t really remember how well I slept during my first night in Pari. I do know, however, that I woke up with that same curious sense of excitement that had permeated me when I was younger on both Christmas and my birthday. I was here! The very place that had seemed so very out of reach a few months ago. Heck, even a few weeks ago, I had no idea that I would be able to stay in Pari, yet here I was. Even though I wished to explore every nook and cranny of the village, there was one place in particular that I just knew I had to visit — the Palazzo.
La Mia Prima Notte a Pari
lunedì, 13 gennaio 2025
I had made my way up from Viterbo by taking the train to Siena, and then grabbed the Autolinee Toscana 51G bus to Pari di Casale Svincolo, about 6km from the medieval village of Pari. Although it was my first time visiting Pari, I had become familiar with it through the online offerings of the Pari Center. I had even helped organize the first formal Gentle Action Gathering for June of that year (2023). Through an unexpected series of events (my passport took longer than expected), I had missed the very conference that I had put my heart and soul into planning. I was completely heartbroken at the time, and wondered whether I would ever get to Pari.
Un Anno Fa
giovedì, 9 gennaio 2025
Yesterday marked exactly one year since I set foot back in the United States after my first trip to Italy. Although I had initially planned to be in Italia for only about a month, as Fate would have it, I was able to extend my stay for almost three months — with a short jaunt to London and Dublin to boot. For those of you considering whether to travel for an extended period, even in a country that isn't fully-fluent in English, I can tell you that this trip changed my life in ways that I could never have imagined beforehand.
