Throughout the month of February, I had a "tiny art piece" on display at the local library in Putnam, Connecticut in Stati Uniti. This is the second year that the local library has done a "tiny art show". This year they doubled the number of partipants to 62, up from 31 from the year before.
It is always amazing to see what people do with a little 3"x3" (7,62x7,62cm) canvas. Some people collaged, or turned the canvas into a 3-D work of art that bubbled forth from the original canvas. One artist even created a 3x3 piece in glass. All in all, a beautiful representation of creative expression. For this piece, I chose to take a somewhat different tack than usual, and chose to recreate an image that I had taken of an old castle while visiting some friends down in Esperia, just south of Rome.
I don't believe that I would have been able to create such a piece even a few months ago. My work with broken, as opposed to continuous, lines helped immensely in laying down the structure for the piece in ink. One thing that surprised me was just how much paint I needed to lay down, especially in the sky, to get a sensation of color. The canvas seemed to absorb much more of the lighter color, making it imperative that I laid down more pigment.
All and all, a fun and engaging experience!
