Giù Le Arche - I

After completing several pieces that showed the outside of the arches in Pari, I decided to create a painting that illustrated the space underneath. The area under the arches is a great little nook to get away from the sunlight in the summer. Not only is this area shady, but there is a constant breeze through here, perhaps because the tunnel works somewhat like a chimney with the way it funnels the air from the lower to the upper level of Pari. I took great care in mixing the colors for this painting and was finally not afraid to work with darker, earthier tones to create more of a feeling of shadow and enclosure.
