This painting represents my second attempt at capturing this doorway in the medieval village of Pari, Italia. While I used pre-mixed Winsor and Newton professional paints for my first attempt, I hand-mixed the watercolors for this piece, which allowed me to customize the colors for the terracotta and the wall. I also made heavy use of both brown and terracotta liquid watercolors from Dr. Ph Martin’s, which I applied with a dip pen. These techniques allowed me to make a jump with both texture and color, giving rise to a piece radically different from my first attempt.
