Il Mare - I

This is the first piece that I began experimenting with underpainting in the highlights and shadows with different colors. After a very simple pencil sketch, I glazed over the sunny highlights with yellow watercolor and blue watercolor for the ocean and the more shadowy areas. From there, I laid in more color to build out the textures of the ocean and the sand, as well as the red of the boat and the line on the reel. I began to ink everything in after finishing the watercolors, reversing my normal approach to artwork.
