Boston Harbor - I

After working on Il Mare - I, I decided to continue with the underpainting and working with water. This piece is based upon a foto that I took on my way through Boston after returning to Stati Uniti from Italia. As with my previous piece, I began with a simple pencil sketch and an underpainting of yellow for the sunlight and blue for the shadows. I also used a minimal of ink, and focused upon developing texture and shadow by working with the watercolor. I finished the details in this piece with a brown india ink, whose warmth married well with the yellow tones of the sunrise on the harbor.
